Are you really
good at exaggerating, lying, fabricating, fibbing, embellishing, stretching the
truth, imagining the improbable, selling the preposterous, being downright
untruthful? If so, “The Write Stuff Challenge: The Tall Story” is for you!

The winners of this writing
contest, sponsored by A Peek at the Peak (The Peak) and the
Greater Pinnacle Peak Association (GPPA), will receive:
- First Place: $200 cash award
and 50 Burger King Burger Buck gift certificates so you, your family, and
friends can enjoy someone else’s Whopper
- Second Place: $25 cash award and 25 Burger King Burger
Buck gift certificates
- Third Place: 25 Burger King Burger Buck gift
certificates
The winning papers will be
published in The Peak and on GPPA’s Web site.
Contestants are required to
write an original 500- to 1,500-word fiction story about our community. The tall
story can be about history, wildlife, plants, people, anything related to The
Peak’s distribution area (North Scottsdale, Carefree/Cave Creek, Rio/Tonto
Verde, northeastern Phoenix). Entries must be submitted by Monday, May 2, 2005.

Guidelines
Dates to Remember:
- May 2, 2005: Article submission deadline
- May 20, 2005: Winners contacted, names published on GPPA

- June 3, 2005: Winning article published in June issue of
The Peak and on GPPA’s Web site. Second- and third- place winners will
be published in either the June or July/August issues of The Peak
Rules:
- The article must be original material written by the
person submitting the article.
- The article must be from 500 to 1,500 words in length.
- The article must be received by the Greater Pinnacle
Peak Association (GPPA) by midnight, May 2, 2005.
- The winners will be contacted on May 20, 2005. The
winners’ names will also be posted on GPPA’s Web site on the same date.
- The winning article will be published in the June issue
of The Peak and on GPPA's Web site. Second- and third- place winners
will be published in either the June or July/August issues of The Peak.
- The article should include a title and subheads as
appropriate.
- Articles will be judged based on creativity,
originality, and writing skill. It is important that the subject of the
article be related to our community.
- The style and tone of the article should be consistent
with articles that are published in A Peek at the Peak Magazine.
- The author must be age 13 or older.
- Contestants cannot be members of the GPPA Board of
Directors, Friends of the Scenic Drive Board of Directors, or members of their
respective families. The decision of the judges is final.
- GPPA and A Peek at the Peak magazine reserve the
right to edit and publish the article in the magazine and GPPA's Web site,
www.gppaaz.org.
Submission Guidelines:
- The name, address, e-mail address, and phone number of
the contestant should be written on the first page of the article.
- Articles can be sent via e-mail, mail, or fax.
- E-mailed articles can be sent as attachments and be MS
Word or WordPerfect files. The text of articles can also be pasted into the
e-mail message.
- Mailed and faxed articles should be neatly printed by
hand or computer.
- The inclusion of up to three photographs, illustrations,
and graphics in the article is optional. If these items are included, the
author should also include a brief caption for each item. We prefer that these
items be sent in tif and EPS file formats. Jpg files are also accepted. If
hard copy photographs or CDs are submitted, please include a self-addressed
return envelope.
