Fame and fortune can be yours by
entering and winning “The Write Stuff Challenge: The Critter.”
Prizes
1st
Place. Two night stay at the Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North
in a luxurious casita guestroom, including dinner for two in Acacia, the
resort’s heralded contemporary steakhouse. In addition to its award winning
spa, the resort features a lagoon-style pool with complimentary poolside
cabanas, golf at Troon North, hiking at nearby Pinnacle Peak, and other
amenities.
2nd Place. One night
stay at the Spur Cross Bed and Breakfast for two in a room with views
of Elephant Butte and Skull Mountain. Includes a 3
course hot gourmet breakfast for two.
The B & B’s location, adjacent to the Carolyn Bartol Nature Preserve on
the north side of Saguaro Hill and situated above the Galloway Wash, is in the

Contestants are required to
write an original 500- to 1,500-word, fiction or non-fiction story about a local
desert critter, such as a coyote, javalina, rattlesnake, pack rat, tarantula,
scorpion, Harris hawk, etc. Entries must be submitted by July 31, 2005. The
winner will be contacted by August 19, 2005, and the story will appear in the
September issue of The Peak and published on GPPA’s Web site.

Before you start rhyming,
review the contest rules below. Also, be sure to visit www.gppaaz.org for
contest news.
- The article must be original material written by the
person submitting the article.
- The article can be fiction or nonfiction.
- The article must be about a desert animal, bird,
reptile, or insect that is native to this area.
- The article must be from 500 to 1,500 words in
length.
- The article must be received by the Greater Pinnacle
Peak Association (GPPA) by midnight, July 31, 2005.
- The winner will be contacted on August 19, 2005.
The winner's name will also be posted on this Web site on the same date.
- The winning article will be published in the
September issue of The Peak and on GPPA's Web site.
- The article should have a title.
- Articles will be judged based on creativity,
originality, and writing skill. The style and tone of the article should
be consistent with articles that are published in A Peek at the Peak
magazine.
- The author must be age 13 or older.
- Contestants cannot be members of the GPPA Board of
Directors, Friends of the Scenic Drive Board of Directors, or members of
their respective families. The decision of the judges is final.
- GPPA and A Peek at the Peak magazine reserve
the right to edit and publish the submitted article in the magazine and
GPPA's Web site, www.gppaaz.org.

- The name, address, e-mail address, and phone number
of the contestant should be written on the first page of the article.
- Articles can be sent via e-mail, mail, or fax.
- E-mailed articles can be sent as attachments and be
MS Word or WordPerfect files. The text of articles can also be pasted
into the e-mail message.
- Mailed and faxed articles should be neatly printed
by hand or computer.
- The inclusion of up to two photographs,
illustrations, or graphics in the article is optional. If these items are
included, the author should also include a brief caption for each item. We
prefer that these items be sent in TIF and EPS, or Jpg file formats. Jpg
files, with very high resolution, can be submitted on CDs or a 3.5-inch
computer disc formatted for IBM.
