There’s little doubt that there are more digital cameras in use and that more people are proficient at using them. More than 60 photographs were entered in The Peak’s fourth annual photography contest, the most entries in the history of the contest. The photographs captured fabulous images of area wildlife, mountains, saguaros, and other subjects the entrants felt were “worth preserving.” The Peak is truly a community magazine and you’ll be seeing many of these entries in upcoming issues. The winners, which are published in this issue and displayed in full color on our Web site, were chosen by a panel of judges, including several professional photographers.
And the winners are 1st place “Under Nature’s Canopy” by Frank Biondo, 2nd place “I Feel Pretty” by Margit Kagerer, and 3rd place “Desert Rainbows” by Bruce Houser. Judges named two runners-up, “Save Some Space for Me” by Ruth Goodwin, and “Bunny on a Rock” by Kay Suchomel.
In the past, votes cast by guests at Cookout at the Ranch determined the order of finish. That was not desirable this year because the cookout is being held on October 27th and publishing the winners in The Peak would have been delayed until the December issue, which was too long for entrants and readers to wait.
