More than 60 photographs were entered in The Peak’s second annual photography contest. A panel of judges, including professional photographers, reviewed the photographs before selecting the three finalists. Attendees of the preservation benefit, Cookout at the Ranch X, voted to determine the order of finish. The event, which attracted about 450 guests was held at MacDonald’s Ranch on October 8th. Enlarged versions of the three photographs, ballots, and ballot box will be available at the Greater Pinnacle Peak Association (GPPA) exhibit tent.
The award for 1st place was a two-night stay at the Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale at Troon North, including dinner for two in Acacia, the resort’s heralded contemporary steakhouse. In addition to its award-winning spa, the resort features a lagoon-style pool with complimentary poolside cabanas, golf at Troon North, hiking at nearby Pinnacle Peak, and other amenities.
The 2nd place prize was a one-night stay for two at Spur Cross Bed and Breakfast in a room with views of Elephant Butte and Skull Mountain. A three-course hot gourmet breakfast for two was included. The B & B’s location, adjacent to the Carolyn Bartol Nature Preserve on the north side of Saguaro Hill and situated above the Galloway Wash, is in the middle of a busy wildlife travel corridor.
The 3rd place winner and a guest had the pleasure of having “Big Marv” Dixon and the cooking crew at Pinnacle Peak Patio prepare a terrific meal on the open grill. Marv has been the grill manager for the restaurant for over 35 years and is one of the reasons Pinnacle Peak Patio “knows its way around a steak.” If you’ve been in Arizona a long time, having dinner in the shadow of Pinnacle Peak will help you remember why you came here in the first place.
